The holiday season is upon us, and here at Windows to the World serving Northeastern Pennsylvania, we’ve got a few ideas for how you can decorate your home for the holidays creatively but without breaking the bank.
Doorway swag – Use a long string of pinecones, which you could find at garden centers and craft stores, to create a natural-looking doorway swag. Tie a big bow in the middle so you can center it perfectly over a doorway, and then tack it up with nails.
Windows – Purchase holiday-themed sponge shapes at a craft store, add a teaspoon of liquid dish soap to acrylic craft paint (which will help make clean-up easy when the season ends), and paint stars, snowflakes, snowmen, trees, and more onto your windows to accent your window fashions.
Mantle – Using fishing line, tack up sparkly snowflakes at varying lengths above your mantle. This will bring a wintry feel to your hearth and create a more festive atmosphere.
Artwork – Wrap your framed artwork in stylish, high-quality wrapping paper that matches your theme. You don’t have to do this with every piece of art, but select which pieces carefully and in a pattern. For example, do all pieces that can be seen from your front window, or focus just on the dining room or entryway.
Outdoor hanging baskets – Get those hanging pots out of storage and dress them up for the holidays! Place decorative evergreen in their base, then get oversized snowflakes, pinecones, or other ornamentation to fill them up. To go all out, decorate them with spray paint and glitter. Hang your decorated baskets on your porch, from a shepherd’s rod, or from trees.
