PANTONE Greenery—the Color of Spring
Greenery is the color choice for 2017, according to the Pantone Color Institute, which calls itself the “global color authority.” It is “illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors.” The Color Institute hopes that Greenery “signals consumers to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate.” You’ll be seeing Greenery everywhere this year. From the new leaf green Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster to fashions by Gucci and Prada, Greenery will remind us all to rejuvenate.
Choosing the Color of the Year
Selecting the Color of the Year takes approximately nine months. The staff at PANTONE explores a variety of industries to study past trends and forecast future ones. They review the latest from the auto industry, designer runways, and interior decorating showcases. Once they identify the trends, they narrow down the choices. The forecasted colors start in fashion and then move to home furnishings, hospitality, and finally automotive. Each industry takes the forecasted color direction and adjusts it to their area and products. Warmer-climate colors may be lighter, and cooler-climate colors may be a bit darker than the actual forecasted color.
