Hunter Douglas Designer Roller Shades

By Dave Coleman

Designer Roller Shades

For years, the roller shade has been a staple in homes across the country because it’s simple to use, affordable, and convenient. But Hunter Douglas takes their roller shade products a step farther. At Windows to the World serving Northeastern Pennsylvania, we’ll be happy to show you these great window treatments in person, so you can see whether they’re the right solution for your home.

Less Light Gap

Over the years, one issue people have had with roller shades is the light gap on each side of the shade when it’s mounted inside the window frame. One side of the roller shade has a clutch to raise and lower the shade. As a result, the fabric on the control side leaves a light gap for the clutch to operate. However, Hunter Douglas has developed a new, ultra-slim system, the custom clutch, which attaches to the bracket and produces the smallest light gap in decades. Although there is still a small light gap on each side of the shade, it is minimal.

Mounting Your Roller Shade

You can mount your roller shade inside your window frame in one of two ways. With “regular roll,” the fabric rolls off the back of the tube closest to the glass. This offers more privacy and the least amount of light leakage. With “reverse roll,” the fabric rolls off the front of the tube, farther from the glass. This option will give you less privacy and more light leakage; however, if you have a double-hung window, you might have to mount the shade this way, because, although you might have enough mounting space to do regular roll, you might not have enough space for the material as it drops in front of the lower window. You may also have other obstructions like handles or cranks that will make having a reverse roll a necessity.
