Did you know that plantation shutters louvers come in different sizes? At Windows to the World serving northeastern Pennsylvania, we carry Hunter Douglas window fashions, including plantation shutters, which offer louvers in 2-1/2″, 3-1/2″, or 4-1/2″ sizes. Each size offers different benefits, and the size you choose might depend on the style, view, or architectural feature you’re looking for. Read on to learn more!
About the Louvers
When selecting the right shutter louver size for you, keep in mind that it is difficult to see into or out of the room when louvers are tilted no matter which size they are, so privacy isn’t an issue. The larger louvers provide the greatest view-through and are popular for taller windows and rooms with exceptionally tall ceilings. The middle size is the most requested and is ideal for windows that are 36″ high or greater. The smallest, narrow-width louver is typically selected for the more traditional look. But don’t think you have to go with it just because you have a smaller window. However, smaller louver sizes might look heavy in a window for which a larger louver size might add aesthetic value.
Choosing the Best Louver Size for You
Think about the window opening’s available space—the space from the outside wall to the window pane—and determine whether the louver will be obstructed from properly opening and closing due to obstacles such as window cranks. As an example, if you have 1-1/2″ of unobstructed space, you can easily use the 3-1/2″ louver. Once mounted, over half of the louver will project into the room when being operated with the remaining operating cleanly in the window opening. Shutter frames can always be built out from the window to accommodate the louver size of your choice
