Sometimes, one of the best ways to update a room and to have it reflect your personal sense of style and energy is to add color—through anything from décor or wall paint to decorative throw pillows. At Windows to the World serving Northeastern Pennsylvania, we understand the power and benefits of color and what it can mean for a home. From the right shade of window treatment fabric to a complementary area rug, color can make a cozy room cozier. But it can be tough to understand the colors out there and what, exactly, their impact might be on your home. However, it turns out that the color experts can help you with that every year, when they choose a trending color for the year. Read on to meet the stars of years past and decide whether they might be to your liking now.
The Experts’ Choices
Each year, the Pantone Color Institute predicts what will be the trending color for the year. Pantone’s color of the year often sets the stage for trends in fashion, window treatments, wall coverings, and interior design. Here are some of the colors they’ve tapped in the past:
- Radiant Orchid. A striking combination of purple and pink, this saturated hue of is best used as an accent color against neutrals ranging from frosty whites to silvery greys.
Marsala. Inspired by the wine of the same name, Marsala offers red-brown richness that emanates sophistication and earthiness. - Rose Quartz and Serenity. In 2016, the Color Institute offered up not just one but TWO trending forecasted colors. Rose Quartz and Serenity, known for their calm and peaceful aura, were forecasted to replicate how we would want to feel in the following months.
- Greenery. Reminiscent of the first day of spring, this yellow-green, snow pea color “is the color of hopefulness and of our connection to nature.”
- Ultra Violet. Ultra Violet is provocative and visionary and has always been considered a mystical or spiritual color.
Character-Inspired
Some colors can even be whimsical and based on trends themselves. For example, the playful “Minion” Yellow, based on Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s Despicable Me characters, is designed to lift our moods and atmosphere. No matter what you’re looking to achieve in the atmosphere of your room, color can help you get there. Just be sure to select one that you love and will be willing to look at every day.
