2016 Forecasted Colors Announced
Last month, Windows to the World in Northeastern Pennsylvania introduced you to Pantone’s Minion Yellow color. Now, we’re just as excited to introduce you to the 2016 Colors of the Year. Rose Quartz and Serenity will be making a calm and peaceful entrance to the trending forecasted colors. Learn about them below, and if you’d like to add these colors to your home, talk to one of our trained consultants for more information.
Who Chooses the Forecasted Colors?
The Color Marketing Group (CMG) meets twice a year to forecast color in both residential and contract worlds. Before they meet, they must study past trends and forecast future ones. As the leading universal system for specific color, PANTONE is the reference tool for all industries when they work to match the forecasted hues.
Why Do We Need Forecasted Colors?
Any industry that produces a product for fashion, home furnishings, hospitality, and more follow forecasted trends. From the clothes you wear to the car you drive, the annual forecasted color has had an impact.
Cultural Factors That Influence Colors
Color is not a designer’s whim. Color trends come from where we are, where we want to go, and how people are feeling or not feeling. Other factors come into play, such as the Economy. When the economy is strong, we see a trend toward rich, deep, and vibrant colors. When it is weak, we see more light colors and soft/safe colors. Also, when our country is at war, color has trended to become safe, soft, and practically nonexistent. Major events such as the Presidential election and the Olympics influence color trends—often to softer and safe colors.
Pantone® Matching System
Pantone Matching System (PMS) is what forecasters use to know the exact color that has been forecasted. The Pantone color numbers for this year’s Colors of the Year are:
- Serenity—Pantone color 15-3919
- Rose Quartz—Pantone color 13-1520
Look for these numbers to be sure you’ve got the right colors this year.
